I have no excuse but pure laziness! We left my dear ol' bro and sweet niece yesterday and drove most of the way across Nevada. Some of it was more interesting then expected....the Bonneville Speedway and some beautiful clouds.
Otherwise my mind wondered.
I'm finishing a great book and it sparked some thoughts.
Sometimes the act of becoming a disciple of Jesus (and living it out everyday) can be watered-down,
washed-out,
bland...
kind of like eating graham crackers or Nilla wafers. But thinking about the people Jesus actually called into relationship with Him (in the Gospels) you see something different.
It's a drastic, fundamental shift,
a turning around,
a radical shift - a total transformation! Nothing wishy-washy, or iffy. Nothing weak or tasteless.
You're blind? Well, how about seeing?
You can't walk - how about jumping and dancing for joy?
You're dead? Why not live!?
It's really more like eating a huge bowl of 5-Alarm Chili, a full-mouth explosion of flavor! Or taking the 'eat-the-world's-hottest-chili-peppers' challenge - crazy, wild, exciting! So, of course, I wonder: is that my life? Has that been my life? Can you really live that level of excitement and challenge every day?
And, sure, I wonder if you might need a few graham crackers to dunk in your wildly tasty chili? Or is that a cop out?

ReplyDeleteElizabeth, your question cuts to the heart of all of us who hunger for the REAL Christian life. I ask myself the same questions. I think there is a chance that sleepiness has overtaken me (like the disciples)...I WANT to "wake up" to REALLY live it out.
ReplyDeleteall I can say is I know there are high high peaks that open our spirits up to an amazing thrill & expectation of the awesomeness of God & there are low low valleys that allow you to go to the depths ~ where you face the sheer raw pain ~ life is full of both ~ and finding His spirit in all of it, especially the silence & mundane can be more powerful than anything. I believe the disciples had a lot of quiet [blandness] mixed in with the amazing blessing of giving up your life to follow Jesus. I believe there's always MORE ~ He's infinite ~ but that it can be a 'setup' to fail of sorts to assess whether you're 'living fully' in Christ. That's why I love Brother Lawrence's way of life ~ living in the presence of His presence.
