So mom is many things at varied times - today I'm pinch-hitting for a sick Micah. (No fear, it's nothing serious...unless you count the fact that he might be 'seriously' slacking!)
We had a BLAST with Laura Lee; I really wasn't ready to leave. But although Noah may not mind missing the first few days of school, Paula has already let me know I must 'give him back' ... so, the show must go on as they say. And today 'the show' was: the Hoover Dam.
Hoover Dam is amazing in many ways, such as the fact that 8 miles of tunnels snake through the dam. Also it's 726 feet tall - built right into the canyon sides. Surprise of all surprises, the dam was never built for electricity. It's all about water! Seven states all fought for the water rights to the Colorado River (and it's tributaries)...enter the Hoover Dam. Pretty interesting. Here's the last little tid-bit...Hoover Dam takes no taxpayer. All the money they need to run the place comes from selling the electricity.
Our tour was pretty cool - we got to go through the tunnels! One was just gorgeous. The dam was built with the public in mind, they knew that we'd want to see the engineering marvel (and we do). It's filled with art deco styling that is way intriguing. The second tunnel ended at the side vents...it was built with only the workmen in mind, but what a cool perspective!
Alright, more excitement tomorrow, hopefully with perfectly well boys!
