Rhyme Time

There once was a day,
a long time after May
The "Bookends" was where it all began,
but it was time to leave as a clan

We hopped in the car,
tires burned up the tar
and we made the long haul
to the Denver mall

Along the way,
we had plenty to say,
Visiting times already spent,
and figuring out how to dry our tent

As the scenery went on by,
such beauty you had to sigh
The continent we will traverse,
but today the view got worse

As the miles pass us by,
and the scenery got more and more dry
The boredom left us perplexed,
but Noah and Jan we did text

The Comfort Inn was packed,
next door was empty, as a matter of fact
The parking lot was creepy,
but we were rather sleepy

So at this time
we leave you our rhyme
Tomorrow (if we are alive)
we will drive, and drive, and drive!

(a joint effort by all the Cernoias)

  1. As you're driving and driving,
    You're more than surviving--
You've even been thriving, praise God!
    The Lord's glory surrounds you
    (If it sometimes near-drowns you)
    In your cross-country-trekking hot rod!

Keep the faith, my poetic friends!!

  2. P.S. "Hot rod" may be a bit of a stretch, but I thought "pimple-backed pod" wasn't quite the right way to go, either...

  3. P.P.S. OK, I think I've got something... for that last line, try: "In your rollicking, pimple-topped pod!"

See if you like that better--or make up your own!! Much love to you all.
